I am a PhD candidate in the department of sociology at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA. My research interests include community & urban sociology, labor & labor movements (with a particular focus on women’s work in public and private sphere), body & embodiment (with a special focus on women in sport), and urban spaces.
I am currently working on my dissertation, conducting an ethnographic study. My project hones in on one neighborhood in Detroit and explores the ways in which urban spaces create and disallow social networks for women’s economic opportunities in both formal and informal economies in Detroit. Much of my time is spent in the neighborhood, engaging in informal conversations with women doing entrepreneurial work. I spend time walking around, observing interactions, learning about the neighborhood, asking questions about the constructions of work and space.
